RETROFIT 25 Exhibition
Ackroyd Lowrie is proud to be a collaborator on the Retrofit 25 Exhibition, which launched last week (25 March) at the Building Centre.
Our projects, the award-winning Alva Coachworks and the impressive Thomas’s Day Schools in Kensington, feature in the exhibit as outstanding examples of retrofit innovation and whole life value.
Our Architect, Charlotte Staton attended the launch event. Her 3 key takeaways were:
➡️ What’s Stopping Retrofit? The biggest challenge in scaling up retrofit efforts is fragmentation. Collaboration and knowledge sharing are essential as too often, people work in silos, each holding part of the solution to a problem too large to tackle alone.
➡️ Think Beyond Sustainability: While retrofitting has clear environmental benefits, its social and health impacts are just as critical. Currently, 6.5 million households live in fuel poverty, and 19 million homes have poor EPC ratings, making them 73% more likely to suffer from damp and mould. Retrofitting can help tackle these challenges.
➡️ Unlocking the Housing Crisis: While the UK faces a housing shortage, it has significant vacant properties. Compulsory purchase orders could unlock these homes for retrofitting, potentially meeting two-thirds of new housing targets.
Retrofit 25 is on until 19 September at the Building Centre, in partnership with National Retrofit Hub.
