AL Vision Day 2024

A few times a year, we like to take the team out of the office to step back and discuss topics about future cities, placemaking and design.

Last week we visited the new Greenwich Design District, where we were given a tour by Mike Martin who worked on the public realm of this new addition to the Greenwich Peninsula.

After enjoying the rooftop basketball, we sketched, and took the ski lift over the Thames. Back in our studio, we had presentation training from Janine Newton and discussions about our client onboarding process.

Our director, Oli Lowrie commented: “One of the key takeaways from our recent Vision Day is the power of collaboration. Visiting the Greenwich Design District, we were reminded that great design doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s the result of diverse minds coming together, whether it’s architects, landscape designers, or the communities who will live and work in these spaces.

“Public spaces can transform the way people engage with their surroundings, creating vibrant places that serve both social and environmental needs. That’s what drives us, designing with a collective vision in mind,” adds Oli.

Jon Ackroyd, our director, continues: “Our Vision Day enabled us to explore how well-considered public spaces can redefine urban living. We saw first-hand how placemaking can create stronger, more connected communities. The future of cities depends on more than architecture. It’s about creating spaces that are dynamic, accessible, and designed for people. As we continue to shape urban environments, days like these sharpen our focus on creating meaningful places that truly enhance the lives of those who inhabit them.”

Thanks to the whole team for making it such a productive and fun day. Looking forward to the next one!
