London's Moving East Focus on Barking and Dagenham

In the next instalment of the “London’s Moving East” series, Ackroyd Lowrie and Hybrid Planning hosted a breakfast briefing focused on the East London borough, Barking and Dagenham.

LB Barking and Dagenham (LBBD) have just published their revised Local Plan for public consultation until the end of February 2020, making this the focal topic of the round table discussion. Joining the event was LBBD and BeFirst Chief Planner, Caroline Harper, who outlined how the local plan will shape the borough’s policies in regard to development.

The vastly updated plan sets out ambitious growth plans to deliver over 50,000 new homes with a focus on Barking Riverside, town centres as well as a number of industrial locations where uses will be reconfigured and intensified. This coincides with BeFirst’s mission of accelerating regeneration in Barking and Dagenham. Caroline Harper highlighted BeFirst’s aim to create 20,000 new jobs, as well as 50,000 new homes to achieve their vision for the borough.
