London's Moving East Focus on Hackney

As part of their “London’s Moving East” series, Ackroyd Lowrie hosted a breakfast briefing at Rochelle Canteen in Shoreditch with Philip Glanville, Mayor of Hackney.

Organisations in attendance included Barratt London, WeWork, Rockwell and Aitch Group, all of whom work in Hackney.

Mayor of Hackney, Phil Glanville, presented his vision for the borough. He has learnt from his predecessor, Jules Pipe, on how to manage a well run central London authority. The Mayor is not desperate for inward investment and instead is particular on what type of partners the Council would like to work with. In Hackney, evolution not revolution is the order of the day! The Mayor understands his Borough and places provision of services at its heart. What is clear is that developers will only be successful on the Council's terms.

Aligning with Glanville’s priority to connect communities within Hackney, Ackroyd Lowrie have several residential and commercial schemes in the borough, and have been hugely impressed with the high design standards required by Hackney Planners. As a local architecture practice, Ackroyd Lowrie understand the existing context of the area and find it refreshing to be able to implement the Council's design led vision.
