Blue Lion
Project: Blue Lion
Location: Camden, London
Client: Lambournes Surveyors Ltd
Status: Planning Application Submitted
Our latest retrofit scheme, the reconfiguration and extension of the Blue Lion public house in Camden has been submitted for planning. Built in 1936, the Blue Lion occupies a prime location in central London but has a significantly underused footprint. Our proposal seeks to retain and enhance the historic pub by reconfiguring and extending the building to provide 7 one-, two- and three-bedroom homes in the upper floors.
The design is deliberately sympathetic to the Bloomsbury Conservation Area and wider neighbourhood yet intends to fill the urban void. The pub’s historic front façade is retained and its existing window rhythm is extended to follow established lines. The rear of the site adopts a mews character and features brick finishes, metallic cladding and ample glazing. As the site is incredibly well-connected, the scheme is car-free but has short and long stay cycle parking. A decision is expected in November.
