Breakfast Club Briefing: The Rt Hon Simon Clarke MP
Ackroyd Lowrie was delighted to host the first Breakfast Club Briefing of 2023, a dinner (!), with The Rt Hon Simon Clarke MP as our guest speaker.
Simon's role as Secretary of State for Levelling Up saw him spearhead a new policy to create Investment Zones, with liberalised planning regulations, and he championed Freeports and other reforms whilst Chief Secretary at the Treasury.
Simon is a vocal proponent of regeneration and home building, both locally and nationally, and led the recent successful push to lift the ban on onshore wind farms. He believes that the Conservative Party must fully support the ‘Green Movement’, and planning reform, if they are to have relevance to a younger demographic. This is illustrated by Simon’s recent media appearances and his role in helping to set up the Next Gen Tories movement.
The event started with a hugely insightful speech from Simon who reiterated his passionate belief that the Government must implement necessary supply-side reforms to ensure that the next generation is able to secure their first step on the housing ladder.
The attendees included representatives from national housebuilders, housing associations, funds developers and consultants. A debate on how the Government can support the industry, in their aims to bring forward new homes at scale and pace, was robust with ideas from across the sector.
Ackroyd Lowrie would like to thank the following for attending:
