The Gower School

Jon Ackroyd was the Project Architect for this £1.3m scheme to build a roof extension and a terrace on top of one of London's first Montessori primary schools. The dense urban site was a significant challenge, as was the requirement to keep the school in occupation during the construction works. All building materials had to be lifted into place using a pulley system as there was no space for a crane.

The pallete of materials is vibrant, and the roof terrace is a wonderful resource to have in the centre of Kings Cross. The project won the BCSE Best Independant School in 2012.
